The burning loss of the plastic thrust tile is essentially caused by the failure of the oil film. There are five main factors contributing to this issue: the quality of pump installation, the manufacturing quality of the pump, excessive load capacity, poor operating conditions, and the quality of the plastic thrust tile itself.
The adjustment force of the anti-heavy bolt on the thrust tile is clearly insufficient, resulting in a large adjustment range and increased disk force. It feels that the tile surface is too soft and lacks adequate hardness. After the manufacturer confirmed that the grinding amount on the Wawa surface of the plastic thrust tile was too small, the finish was not satisfactory. Even after the failure occurred, the PTFE layer on the plastic thrust tile remained approximately 2.0 mm thick (the required thickness should be 1.5 mm). Regarding the finish, some tiles showed minor processing marks about 1.5 mm wide during installation, but this issue also appeared with new plastic thrust tiles used later. When adjusting the level of the unit using a rubber injection molding machine, it was obvious that the adjustment force was significantly higher than expected.
The entire burning process occurs as follows: due to the substandard quality of the plastic thrust tile, the temperature of the tile gradually rises. Once the PTFE surface reaches 232°C or higher, the solder begins to melt and flow into the lubricating oil. A small portion is carried into the thrust end of the tile, while most of it deposits on the oil inlet side. A small amount enters the thrust head mirror plate along with the lubricating oil. The incoming oil forms an oil film, which reduces direct friction. However, the molten solder accelerates the wear of the PTFE surface. As the plastic enters the oil, it degrades the lubricant, creating a vicious cycle that further increases the temperature. Because only a small amount of oil entered during this process, the surface of the plastic thrust tile became soft, and the system shut down in time. As a result, the surface of the tile remained largely smooth without visible signs of scratches or burning.
