Abstract Recently, a reporter learned that a Chinese patent titled “A Popular Polycrystalline Ingot Furnace” is being promoted for the Chinese Patent Award, and it is currently under public review. This innovation aims to address technical limitations in the heating and thermal field systems of German ALD polycrystalline ingot furnaces. By improving and developing existing technologies, the Chinese team has created a new, independent intellectual property technology, leading to the development of a novel polysilicon sheet casting product—monocrystalline silicon wafers produced through casting. Unlike traditional single-crystal silicon production, this casting method offers comparable performance at a lower cost. As a result, the company became the first globally to commercialize cast monocrystalline silicon wafers. According to reports, the patent tackles critical issues in temperature control and thermal field management within polycrystalline ingot furnaces used in the photovoltaic industry. It enables the production of low-cost, high-efficiency (17.6% to 18.6%) polysilicon with minimal degradation. This represents a major breakthrough in the large-scale production of high-efficiency polycrystalline silicon wafers, significantly contributing to the advancement of environmentally friendly solar cell technologies. The patented technology and its related products were recognized as National Strategic Innovation Products by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2012. They also received the Third Prize of the Zhejiang Science and Technology Award that same year and were honored with the Provincial Excellent Industrial New Product award from the Zhejiang Economic and Information Technology Commission, winning the Second Prize. This innovation not only highlights China's growing technological capabilities but also demonstrates how domestic research can lead to global advancements in renewable energy solutions. With continuous improvements and real-world applications, this technology is expected to play an even more significant role in shaping the future of the solar industry.
