In addition to its strength, plexiglass is remarkably lightweight. It has a density of 1.18 g/cm³, meaning it weighs about half as much as regular glass and only 43% of aluminum, which is already considered a light metal. This makes it an excellent material for applications where weight is a concern, such as in automotive parts, aerospace components, and large-scale structures. Plexiglass is also very easy to process. It can be cut with lathes, drilled with drills, or even dissolved using solvents like acetone or chloroform. It can be molded into complex shapes using techniques such as blow molding, injection molding, and extrusion. These properties allow it to be used in a wide range of products, from large aircraft cockpits to small dental trays and everyday items like food containers and display cases.
