The thinnest glass in the world is only one molecule thick

David Muller, professor of applied and engineering physics at Cornell University, stumbled upon the glass. It was very thin. Under the microscope, its silicon atoms and oxygen atoms were clearly visible. This ultra-thin material may be used to improve computers and intelligence. Cell phone processor performance.

Muller found some “sludge” when extracting pure graphene. The analysis confirmed that it was a glass layer composed of silicon and oxygen.

According to the researchers' predictions, an air leak contributed to the reaction between the copper foil producing graphene and the quartz furnace, which eventually formed the ultra-thin glass.

This discovery also gave scientists a new understanding of the core structure of glass. As early as 1932, the physicist William Houlder Zachariasen made a similar picture - see Figure 3.

The current discovery has been recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.
