The European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA) warned that an anti-dumping investigation into a fiberglass product in China is about to reach a preliminary conclusion, which may result in a “shocking” 43.6% anti-dumping duty.

EuCIA said in a statement: "This anti-dumping complaint was filed by the European Fiberglass Manufacturers Association (APFE) in 2009. According to sources from the EuCIA, the European Commission is preparing to start fiberglass from September 17. The product is subject to a temporary tax of 43.6%."

EuCIA added in the statement: “The European composites industry believes that this move is contrary to the interests of the community and is not good for composite users in the short and long term. Currently, the European composites industry is experiencing the fiberglass brought by the crisis. The shortage and continued downturn. This situation is putting users at risk of extremely high anti-dumping tariffs."

EuCIA also expressed deep concern and hoped that EU member states would make a decision on temporary taxation in the short term because they would submit a formal written opinion by August 11.

The association urges composites companies to let national institutions and politicians know their concerns.

The association said: “It must be recognized that once taxation is implemented, the dissatisfaction of the composites companies will be incurred, and the overall impact on employment and national import tariffs.”
