Since ginger lotus is prone to bacterial infections, it’s best to grow it in well-drained soil that doesn’t hold excess water. Fertilizer Management: After germination, the plant goes through several critical stages—flowering, bulb development, and the emergence of new sprouts—all at the same time. This means its nutrient requirements are high throughout the growing season. A recommended base fertilizer application is 15 kg per plant, consisting of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (equivalent to 71.4 kg of ammonium sulfate, 83 kg of superphosphate, and 25 kg of potassium chloride). A top-dressing should be applied every 20 days, using 2 kg of the same mix per plant (about 9.5 kg of ammonium sulfate, 11.1 kg of superphosphate, and 3.3 kg of potassium chloride). Using drip irrigation with a 3% solution of micronutrients helps ensure even distribution and promotes healthier blooms that last longer. Shading Treatment: Once the bulbs have germinated and the flower stems begin to emerge, using a shade net with a 50–60% shading rate can help increase stem length and bract size while reducing green spots at the ends of the bracts, improving overall flower quality. However, by late August, it's important to remove the shade as the plants become more dense, leading to mutual shading and potentially thinner peduncles. Removing the shade during this period helps prevent overcrowding and ensures better growth conditions for the remaining season. Proper care throughout the entire growth cycle is essential for maximizing yield and quality. By managing moisture, nutrients, and light exposure effectively, growers can produce high-quality ginger lotus flowers that are both visually appealing and commercially valuable.
