In recent years, numerous companies have conducted extensive research on the selection and management of standard components, developing internal standards to ensure the quality of fasteners. Although standard fasteners are highly standardized, their quality can vary significantly depending on the manufacturer. To maintain consistent quality, it is essential to establish comprehensive corporate standards and implement strict quality control measures. Our factory has developed enterprise-level standards covering specifications, technical inspection, and management, with a particular focus on fasteners commonly used in diesel locomotives.
Standard fasteners come in a wide variety of types and specifications. Selecting the most suitable ones for our company’s needs requires thorough statistical analysis. After analyzing usage data, we can clearly identify which types and sizes are most frequently used. Based on this information, we can streamline procurement by reducing the number of specifications while still meeting production requirements. This approach helps lower costs, reduce inventory, and improve overall production efficiency.
For example, in our factory’s standard DL44001-20005 diesel locomotive, we’ve identified several commonly used pin-type fasteners, such as cotter pins, taper pins, cylindrical pins, open taper pins, elastic cylindrical pins, screw taper pins, and pin eight. In terms of taper pin specifications, common nominal diameters include 3, 6, 8, 10, and 12, with lengths ranging from L20 to L80.
Technical inspection plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of standard fasteners. With over ten categories of fasteners, each type comes in various forms. While structures differ, certain commonalities exist—especially among bolts and nuts. These similarities allow for the development of unified testing methods, inspection rules, and qualification criteria. For instance, under our factory standard DL49001-965, incoming fasteners undergo detailed checks for surface defects, dimensions, mechanical properties, and material composition.
Inspection procedures and methods are strictly defined. For non-destructive testing of bolts, screws, and studs, any signs of quenching cracks or surface imperfections result in rejection. Dimensional inspections follow specific sampling ratios: 4.4% for critical fasteners and 6.2% for general ones. Key fastener codes and names are listed in the standard’s appendix. Mechanical property tests, such as hardness testing, are performed according to established standards. In case of disputes, tensile strength tests are conducted, and the lowest hardness value determines the outcome. If suppliers fail to comply, arbitration inspections are carried out per GB90-855 guidelines.
Factory entry inspections are vital, especially given the harsh environments where our products operate—such as wet tropics, dry and cold regions, islands, and high-salt areas. The quality of fasteners directly impacts the performance and reliability of our rolling stock. Strengthening inspection processes and strictly adhering to internal standards ensures better product quality and long-term customer satisfaction.
