In human excrement, the incorporation of fine soil, turf, and other highly absorbent materials can significantly enhance nutrient content and accelerate decomposition, leading to quicker fertilizer effectiveness. However, these mixtures are prone to nutrient loss, especially nitrogen. To minimize nitrogen loss, it is recommended to cover or mix these adsorbent materials directly into the excrement, allowing them to absorb urine and ammonia more effectively. According to experimental results, adding 25% dry fine soil to human waste can reduce nitrogen loss by approximately 10%. Adding superphosphate to human excreta is another effective method. By incorporating 3% to 5% superphosphate into the waste, not only is nitrogen loss reduced, but the overall nutrient content, particularly phosphorus, is also improved. This makes the final product more valuable as a fertilizer. Another option is to add ferrous sulfate. For every 50 kilograms of human excreta, adding 250 to 300 grams of ferrous sulfate helps protect nitrogen and also reduces odors, making the composting process more manageable and less unpleasant. Gypsum powder can also be used. Mix 5 kilograms of gypsum with each kilogram of human excrement, along with 25 kilograms of water. After thoroughly mixing, seal the mixture for about 10 days to allow the chemical reactions to take place, improving its stability and nutrient retention. When working with fresh cow dung, adding soy flour can be beneficial. For every 50 kg of fresh cow dung, mix in 50 grams of soy flour. Seal the mixture in a jar and let it sit for 3 to 5 days at around 25°C. When applying this compost, it's recommended to water it three times to ensure proper nutrient release. In addition, when preparing circle fertilizer (a type of compost), adding 2% superphosphate can greatly enhance its quality. Mix it evenly and store the mixture for approximately 20 days. This process can increase the fertilizer efficiency by more than double, making it a more effective soil amendment. By using these methods, farmers and waste managers can improve the quality of organic fertilizers while reducing environmental impact and maximizing nutrient utilization.
