When it comes to buying a water purifier, understanding how they are classified is essential. Water purifiers come in different filtration stages, such as single-stage, two-stage, three-stage, four-stage, and five-stage systems. Each stage serves a specific purpose in removing impurities from the water.

Single-stage filtration is typically suitable only for high-quality drinking water sources, like bottled or purified water. It’s not recommended for tap water, which often contains more contaminants. Two-stage filtration improves on this by partially removing organic and inorganic impurities, effectively reducing chlorine and improving taste. However, it still isn’t enough for heavily contaminated water sources.

Three-stage filtration adds an extra layer of purification, helping to clarify the water and remove more particles. As the number of filtration stages increases, so does the effectiveness of the system. This means that higher-grade filtration generally leads to better water quality, making it a key factor when choosing a water purifier.

When selecting a water purifier, consider the following guidelines based on your local water quality:

First, focus on cost-effectiveness. Look for a product that offers good quality, reliable performance, and ease of use. Low maintenance and running costs are also important. Additionally, choose a brand with strong technical support and excellent after-sales service to ensure long-term satisfaction.

For domestic water use, soft water products are usually preferred. However, for drinking water, it's best to choose water with a moderate hardness level—between 140mg/L and 200mg/L. Soft water and pure water are not ideal for long-term consumption due to their lack of minerals.

If your water has a hardness of 170mg/L or less, a composite ultrafiltration system is a great choice. For water with hardness between 170mg/L and 250mg/L, use soft water for showers and washing, and opt for a compound ultrafiltration unit for drinking water.

In areas where the water hardness exceeds 250mg/L, it's advisable to use soft water for washing and a mixture of softened and unsoftened water for drinking, filtered through an ultrafiltration machine. In regions with high fluoride, salt, or sulfur content, look for a purifier that can handle these contaminants and even supplement trace minerals.

If your water has a lot of sediment, rust, or sand, installing a precision filter before the main purifier can help protect the system and improve overall performance.
